Fishing Safaris at Kiambi Lower Zambezi
At Kiambi Lower Zambezi all our fishing safaris are tailor made, according
to our guests needs, and mainly based from Kiambi Lower Zambezi
where our guests can choose from the variety of accommodation options
available i.e. luxury air conditioned thatched chalets, luxury thatched
tented chalets, self catering cottage or camping. Meal times are
tailored to fit in with our larger fishermen groups, as normally
they like to get onto the river quite early in the morning … departing
at around 06h30 and returning around 11h00 for a delicious brunch,
quick rest and swim in the pool, then it's time to depart again
at about 14h00 for further fishing adventures returning to camp
at are 18h00 just as the sun sets, with a delicious dinner awaiting
their return. Cooler boxes are sent on each boat, and again depending
on your requirements, we usually only have about 3 to 4 fishermen
on each boat ensuring you have the space for moving around the boat
to fish. Each boat has a boatman, who is available to assist you
with baiting the rods and to provide you with an awesome fishing
safari.

The Zambezi River
The Zambezi River is the fourth largest river in Africa after the Nile, Congo and Niger rivers. The river flows for 2700km. Rising in the northern corner of Zambia; it turns south flowing through eastern Angola and Western Zambia, before entering Zimbabwe at Kazangula.
Some 65km east of Kazangula, the river plunges over the Victoria Falls. It then enters Batonka Gorges before reaching Lake Kariba and the Kariba Dam. Flowing through the Kariba gorges and some falls and rapids it reaches Cahora Bassa Lake and dam wall in Mozambique, and thereafter on to its delta mouth on the Indian Ocean near Chinde, south of Quelimane.
The main tributaries are Chobe, the Kafue, Luangwa, and the Shire River flowing from Lake Malawi. Several millions of years ago the Zambezi was flowing through a different course which was the Okavango Delta, Makgadikgadi, the Kalahari and into the Atlantic Ocean. Due to plate movement the outlet to the Atlantic was closed and the Makgadikgadi Pans, Okavango, Savute and Mbabe area became a huge lake.
Afterwards, the Zambezi changed its course in the direction of the present Victoria Falls and the Indian Ocean. The huge lake started to dry out, forming the numerous Makgadikgadi lakes, Nxai Pans and Savute. The Zambezi River is probably the best known river for tiger fishing in Southern Africa. However the Zambezi holds many other species of fish well worth trying your angling skills on: Giant Vundu (Heterobranchus longifilis) Chessa (Distichodus Shenga) and Nkupe (Distichodus mossambicus).
